‘The Solitary Light’ (novel excerpt) – published in eMerge for the Masters of Professional Practice (Creative Writing) anthology, 2019

Eight authors. Eight students. Eight stories. We are the University of the Sunshine Coast’s graduating class of 2018. Explore eMerge, an anthology. You want aliens and a matriarchal society? It’s there. Dystopian Australia? No worries. A childhood robbed? Get your handkerchief. A shipwrecked heroine? It’s truly unbelievable. A lighthouse? See inside a family salvaged. An African slave, drummer boy and convict: a founder of Australia. The life of an unwed Victorian mother: experience the unimaginable. An alcoholic motorcyclist: rode around Australia, dry.

Different worlds; different stories. Fiction and non-fiction. Brilliant works our foremost goal. These are our journeys. Our continuing mission: to explore our creativity; to seek out new styles; emerging…. to boldly go where no writer has gone before!

About Field of Words: Welcome! Here you’ll find the work of female writers, transgender individuals who identify as female, and non binary people. Dr Eileen Herbert-Goodall, author of The Sherbrooke Brothers and creative writing tutor has generously given permission for me to share her testimonial about my writing. I attended Eileen’s 6-week writing course at the University of the Sunshine Coast where I wrote the short story ‘Coming Home’ that was published in Field of Words.

“Bianca Millroy’s writing is, quite simply, breath-taking. Her work exudes a measured poetic cadence that tends towards the lyrical, while remaining relentlessly incisive. It’s no surprise then that Bianca has a fine appreciation for the potential rhythm of language, along with a great power to wield it. Reading Bianca’s work is akin to being lured into a rich and fascinating tapestry of dreams, where one loses themselves amongst vivid landscapes inhabited by complex, compelling characters . Without a doubt, Bianca is a young, rising talent who will soon capture the imaginations of readers and publishers alike. She has much to offer the world of storytelling, and I for can’t wait for her to burst upon the international literary scene. Watch this space!”
